The assurance of Romans 8 rests on God’s justification and on Christ, who died, rose and intercedes for the saints—a foundation far firmer than human resolve or present feelings. Trouble, persecution, deprivation and danger are real, yet cannot overturn his love in Christ. Believers can therefore remain assured through tears and continue praying while afraid. This song suits communities under pressure or suffering loss, but should not pressure hurting people to recover immediately. The church first accompanies and listens, then joins in declaring that no created thing can sever this grace.
