The pilgrim journey · Mission and the gospel
Each stanza leads with a word: story, song, message and Saviour. Their sequence itself expresses a view of mission: an event comes first, then song, message and the person at its centre. The Great Commission says, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” (Matthew 28:19). The refrain pictures darkness becoming daylight, confident without being noisy. Nichol was a British musician who signed most of his works Colin Sterne, an approximate anagram of Ernest Nichol whose letters do not correspond exactly.
