Redeeming grace · The incarnation
Through the wise men’s gifts, this hymn prompts reflection on Christ’s kingship, honour and suffering, responding to his birth through searching and worship. Matthew records gold, frankincense and myrrh, but neither says there were three wise men nor calls them kings. The title’s number and identity belong to the carol tradition. Recognising this distinction permits appreciation of symbolism while knowing Christmas through Scripture. Examine willingness to seek and worship Christ as the wise men did, placing treasured time, abilities and resources in his hands and acknowledging his worthiness in daily life.
