The pilgrim journey · Prayer and drawing near
This song helps members of the congregation who have arrived from different places turn their hearts together towards Christ and remember that they have gathered to honour him. The New Testament describes the church as a spiritual house built of living stones and explains that believers can approach God with confidence through Jesus. The song’s temple imagery can therefore lead us to treasure the community the Lord has gathered. Temporarily setting aside excessive concern about ourselves helps us listen to the Lord’s word and notice the needs of brothers and sisters beside us. As we enter worship, we can still bring our real worries and joys, asking the Lord to put our thoughts in order so that our shared praise, prayer and encouragement of one another all centre on him.
Sunday calls to worship, worship at the beginning of small groups and communal prayer.
