The pilgrim journey · Unity and love
Psalm 133 celebrates how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity. Ephesians 4:3 adds a verb: “being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Unity is something to guard with effort, rather than something that simply grows. This song's title gets it right: unity from the heart, beyond outward agreement. Division in Chinese churches often concerns wounded pride and old grievances rather than doctrine. Singing only emotionally can therefore conceal the real problems. The song carries most weight in reconciliation, provided the matters needing discussion have already been addressed. It also suits united services and gatherings across congregations.
