The glory of God · Christ: glory made visible
The refrain centres on looking towards Jesus until earthly things grow dim. It does not say earthly things are unimportant: it concerns their relative place beside him. Hebrews 12:2 directs the same movement towards Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. The previous verse has just spoken of being “surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1), yet immediately turns our eyes from them to Jesus. Psalm 34:5 says those who look to him become radiant. This hymn suits a distracted congregation or a quiet moment before the sermon. Short and easy to sing, it is accessible to newcomers.
Quiet preparation for worship and prayer meetings; teaching on looking to Christ wholeheartedly or Hebrews 12.
