This hymn places trust within life day by day and moment by moment: whether the road is bright or the outlook dark, we continue entrusting ourselves to Jesus. Proverbs urges us to rely on God wholeheartedly and acknowledge him in all our ways; the Psalms also give frightened people words to express their trust in the Lord. As we sing, we can place one specific worry in his hands while conscientiously fulfilling the responsibilities before us. Trust grows through repeated prayer and repeated opportunities to learn, and can also be strengthened through the companionship of brothers and sisters. The Lord’s unchanging faithfulness gives us reason to live gently and honestly and to face tomorrow with hope, even when we cannot yet see the next step.
