About this hymn

Unlike many of Fanny Crosby’s first-person testimonies, this hymn repeatedly turns its subject towards the redemption God has accomplished in Christ. It first proclaims the Father’s sending of his beloved Son and the door of salvation open to believers, then calls the whole earth to praise, and finally looks towards seeing the Lord face to face. The emphasis falls on God’s works deserving glory, rather than on the greatness of a human decision. It therefore fits well after a gospel message, but should not become merely an invitation pressing people to raise their hands. John 14:6 identifies the central way to the Father, while Ephesians 1 explains that redemption and forgiveness are found in Christ.

When to use this hymn

Gospel Sundays, baptisms, testimony meetings and mission gatherings; teaching on salvation by grace or giving all glory to God.
