The glory of God · Loving kindness and mercy
Through images of human language and writing unable to exhaust their subject, this hymn expresses the depth and breadth of God’s love. It first looks towards salvation: the Lord’s love reaches sinful people who have fallen short and cannot save themselves, and through his beloved Son brings them into reconciliation with him. It then connects passing generations with love that never ends. Ephesians invites believers to grasp Christ’s love together with all the saints, reminding us that this understanding also deepens within community life. As we sing, we can ground thanksgiving in one specific experience of receiving grace, then think of someone who still feels unworthy of acceptance and learn to treat them with kindness. Wonder at the Lord’s love thus enters our everyday way of treating people.
Thanksgiving for salvation, gospel gatherings, meditation before Communion and gatherings of care.
