Redeeming grace · Freely given grace

About this hymn

Ephesians 1:7 connects redemption and forgiveness through one thing: his blood. This song's strength is that it does not skip that step. Grace means someone has paid on our behalf, rather than God simply deciding to overlook the matter. Titus 3 puts it even more directly: he saved us apart from righteous deeds of our own. In modern worship, Chinese churches sometimes unconsciously shift attention towards the renewal of human feelings described in the words. This song keeps the subject in view: he is always the one who accomplishes redemption. It fits as a response after the sermon, especially on Sundays teaching about salvation.

When to use this hymn

A response after teaching on salvation, justification or forgiveness; baptism services; New Year thanksgiving.
