Confession and repentance · Renewal and sanctification
Through the image of fire, this hymn asks the Lord to awaken his people, making cold hearts willing again to love the Lord, serve and proclaim the gospel. Psalm 85 connects revival with God’s lovingkindness; Romans 12 places diligent service within a life of mutual love, patience and prayer. These passages help us value revival’s fruit: sin faced honestly, relationships repaired, weak people cared for and the gospel faithfully proclaimed. As we sing, we can bring our fervent cries into specific repentance, asking the Holy Spirit to renew individuals and the community so that our lives after worship continue responding to the desire we have sung.
Prayer for revival, coworkers’ retreats, gatherings for repentance and renewal, and responses to mission.
