The pilgrim journey · Mission and the gospel
In Genesis 12:2 God promises to bless Abram and calls him to be a blessing. The latter part is often omitted, yet it gives blessing its purpose. Blessings are meant to be passed on, beyond being an end in themselves. Ephesians 1:3 identifies the best blessing: every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. Chinese church talk of blessing can drift towards worldly success. This song's title corrects that direction. It suits mission Sundays and Lunar New Year gatherings, especially the latter, when blessing is most easily confused with becoming wealthy.
