The glory of God · Loving kindness and mercy
This song turns Psalm 103’s summons into a refrain. The psalmist first addresses his own soul: “Praise Yahweh, my soul!” (Psalm 103:1), commanding himself to remember before his emotions follow. The middle stanzas sing of morning and a new day, and of God: “Yahweh is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness.” (Psalm 103:8). The final stanza looks towards failing strength and the end of life, still willing for the soul to sing. Remind the congregation that what we count is always God’s works. Praise need not wait until our mood is ready.
