Redeeming grace · The cross and substitutionary atonement
Longing to remember Jesus’ life deeply within our hearts, this hymn leads us to know the Saviour through his birth, temptation, suffering, death and resurrection. It grounds the content of faith in the road the Lord actually travelled and invites listeners to see his love in these events. Luke’s announcement of the birth and the facts of salvation summarised in 1 Corinthians can help the congregation connect the different sections into a complete gospel picture. Read a related Scripture passage before or after singing and explain one scene to children or friends exploring faith. Repeated telling is intended to help us know Jesus increasingly and respond in trust to the salvation he has already accomplished.
