Confession and repentance · Renewal and sanctification
This prayer asks the Holy Spirit to change our hearts, turn scattered desires towards the Lord and gradually mature love, trust and patience in our lives. Romans connects God’s love with the Holy Spirit’s work within our hearts; Galatians lists the fruit the Spirit produces, helping us recognise the direction of renewal. As we sing, we can honestly acknowledge our impatience, hesitation or coldness and ask the Lord to make his command to love him wholeheartedly a real response within us. Such a prayer also brings a willingness to be taught: remaining faithful while waiting, practising gentleness in relationships and offering ourselves in service, letting the love the Holy Spirit gives guide each day of life.
