The pilgrim journey · Prayer and drawing near
Evening sacrifice and incense picture bringing a day’s petitions before God and asking him to keep our hearts and steps. Psalm 141 joins prayer to guarded speech and avoiding evil; Psalm 143 seeks the Lord’s guidance amid trouble. Evening prayer therefore combines entrusting and examination: today’s words, encountered temptations and unresolved worries can all be told frankly to him. Those taking the Lord as refuge also accept his teaching. Quietly review the day after singing, seeking forgiveness, offering thanks and placing tomorrow’s road in the trustworthy Lord’s hands.
Evening prayer, retreat silence, personal examination and church prayer meetings.
