Facing frightening powers, this work leads us to remember God’s power, presence and election. In 2 Kings 6, Elisha’s servant is frightened by the surrounding army, and the Lord lets him see his protection; Romans 8 declares that trouble and persecution cannot separate those who belong to Christ from his love. We can seek courage within this love while honestly facing dangers and weaknesses that remain. After singing, it is helpful to intercede for people under pressure, facing persecution or experiencing fear, and consider the practical support we can offer. The assurance that the Lord walks with his people makes the community willing to bear difficulties together and continue along the road he directs.
