Remembering that Jesus laid down his life for us grounds this song’s dedication in gratitude. Romans 12 calls those who have received mercy to offer themselves, while Luke 9 places following the Lord in the daily choice to take up the cross. The work also asks the Lord for strength, echoing Isaiah’s comfort for the weary. When using it at a dedication gathering, leaders can invite people to consider a specific and appropriate response: faithfully caring for their family, undertaking a ministry responsibility or preparing seriously for the path of being sent.
