The pilgrim journey · Prayer and drawing near
The continuing praise and prayers of the saints in Revelation give this work its picture of heavenly worship. The Lord deserves glory, so believers are willing to keep drawing near to him, bringing prayer and thanksgiving into the rhythm of life. The church on earth also needs sleep, work and time to care for families; a heart that remains open to the Lord can be maintained within these daily responsibilities. At prayer meetings, it is helpful to divide intercession into sections for individuals, the church and the world, allowing different members to participate in turn. Each prayer has hope because of Christ’s salvation. We can come before him with reverence and thanksgiving and continue our responsibility to support one another after the meeting ends.
Prayer meetings, prayer watches divided into periods and retreat worship; scheduling should take account of the congregation’s rest and everyday responsibilities.
