The pilgrim journey · Prayer and drawing near
When our souls are dry, we can still express our longing to God and learn afresh to listen and obey. Psalm 63 arises from a wilderness setting: because of the Lord’s lovingkindness, the psalmist continues seeking him. James calls us to draw near to God and connects this nearness with cleansing our hearts. The fellowship for which the work longs thus enters the direction and choices of life. In John 14, Jesus connects loving him with keeping his commandments, giving worship a clear path of response. As we sing this song, we can bring our busyness, weariness and difficult decisions before the Lord and ask him to guide us faithfully forward through his word and the companionship of fellow believers.
Quiet prayer, personal devotions and retreat worship; suitable after a period of Scripture meditation.
