About this hymn

With a cry from far away, this hymn awakens the church’s responsibility for mission and longs for the light of the gospel to reach those who do not yet know the Saviour. In Acts, the Macedonian appeal prompts Paul and his companions to discern God’s leading and act; 2 Corinthians explains that what is proclaimed is Jesus Christ as Lord, and that the preachers serve people for his sake. As we sing, we can notice needs near and far and respond through prayer, giving and practical involvement. A life that shines also includes humble listening, respect for cultures and long-term companionship, so that people come to know Christ through honest testimony and love and give glory to the heavenly Father.
