Confession and repentance · Confession and returning
Hosea 6:1 calls us to return to Yahweh: the one who has torn will heal, and the one who has struck will bind up. This is not easy to explain, for tearing and healing belong to the same Lord. Joel 2:13 adds the call to tear our hearts rather than our garments. Outward actions are easy; inward turning is hard. This song's short title points to that very action: returning. It suits confession and welcoming brothers and sisters who have been away from church for a long time. As they sing, the congregation is giving them words with which to begin.
Confession, returning and renewal meetings; welcoming brothers and sisters long absent from worship; teaching on Hosea.
