Our misery in sin · Weakness and weariness
This prayer allows weary people to acknowledge that they no longer have the strength to go on and simply ask the Saviour to take their hand and sustain them. Images of storms, darkness and the twilight of life bring the sorrows of different circumstances before the same trustworthy Lord. After perplexity, Psalm 73 reaffirms that God still holds the psalmist; Psalm 23 answers fear in the shadow of death with the Shepherd’s companionship. As we sing, we need not hurry to find an explanation for the pain, but can first tell the Lord how weary our hearts are. The church can receive this cry through quiet companionship, prayer and practical care, helping those who suffer know that they are still remembered and can still hope in the Lord’s leading.
Care in illness and grief, memorial services, evening prayer and personally entrusting ourselves to the Lord.
