The glory of God · Loving kindness and mercy
Following the thought of Psalm 103, this hymn calls our own souls to remember God’s forgiveness, care and lovingkindness, and invites all the saints to praise together. The King of heaven is also the Father who sympathises with his children’s weakness; our days are brief, but his lovingkindness remains steadfast. This contrast gives worship both reverence and nearness: we acknowledge our limits and find comfort because he remembers our nature. As we sing, we can recall specific ways we have been sustained and bring our thanksgiving into the whole congregation’s praise. Those experiencing change or declining strength can also grasp God’s unchanging faithfulness afresh in this shared remembrance.
Sunday calls to worship, thanksgiving services, responses to sermons on Psalm 103 and pastoral visits.
