Redeeming grace · The incarnation
From the humble birth in Bethlehem, this Christmas hymn considers Jesus’ real experience of human growth, sorrow and need, before turning towards the hope of being with him for ever. Luke describes his obedience within his family and his gradual growth; Hebrews explains that he can sympathise with our weaknesses, yet did not sin. This understanding helps children and adults alike draw near to the Saviour and learn to respond to him in everyday responsibilities. As we sing, we can pray about growth and difficulties within families, care for children who lack a sense of security and remember that Christ himself entered human circumstances. His real humanity and his reliable salvation together uphold the comfort of Christmas.
