Confession and repentance · Surrender and dedication
Leviticus 6:13 commands, “Fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out.” Every morning the priest tended it, adding wood and clearing ashes, day after day. Revival fire is often imagined as one dramatic descent, but Scripture's fire requires daily care. Romans 12:1 changes the sacrifice from animals to our bodies, and makes it living. A living sacrifice's difficulty is that it can climb off the altar. Singing with both passages in view is closer to reality than singing only enthusiasm. The song suits dedication services and gatherings for commitment at the beginning of a year.
