The glory of God · Loving kindness and mercy
Through images of love, light, joy and the cross, this hymn expresses the trust of handing our finite lives back to the Lord. The promise in Romans assures us that no circumstance can separate those who belong to Christ from his love; the picture of a grain of wheat falling into the earth in John also leads us to ponder the relationship between self-giving and a fruitful life. As we sing, we can entrust to the Lord both the attachments we find hard to release and our real sorrow, asking him to enable us still to respond to him amid loss. God’s enduring love upholds our fragility and gives hope to our dedication, making us willing to treasure today, serve our neighbours and look towards the eternity he has prepared.
Worship on the Lord’s love, prayers of dedication, retreat meditation and accompanying those facing loss.
