About this hymn

Looking back on the decision to turn to the Saviour, this hymn joyfully acknowledges that we now belong to him and expresses a willingness to continue learning to pray and follow. The account in Acts of the Ethiopian receiving the gospel, being baptised and going on his way rejoicing echoes this response. For new believers, the day of coming to faith can become a starting point for remembering grace; for brothers and sisters who have believed for many years, singing it again can reawaken their first gratitude. The commitment in the song needs to take shape gradually in later life, while the good work God has begun gives hope to persevere. The church can use the song to welcome new believers and promise to support their growth through teaching, prayer and companionship.

When to use this hymn
