The glory of God · Christ: glory made visible
From the gratitude of someone who has received grace, this hymn unfolds into an invitation for everyone to praise. The Saviour’s grace in forgiving sin and freeing those in bondage makes the writer feel that his own voice is still insufficient to express his thanks. Psalm 96 connects a new song with telling the Lord’s works among all peoples; in Luke, the gospel Jesus proclaims also concerns those who are poor, oppressed and without hope. When the congregation sings together, each person’s gratitude becomes part of a shared witness to the Lord’s salvation. The hymn also encourages us to notice those around us who need good news and, through clear words and practical care, tell who Jesus is and how he brings renewal of life.
