Confession and repentance · Surrender and dedication
The entrusting of Psalm 31 comes from someone in distress: the prayer acknowledges that one’s times are in God’s hands while still asking for deliverance and walking faithfully. Entrusting a life to him is an active reliance on his character amid an unclear future, discerning his leading and offering one’s body as a living sacrifice, rather than a passive acceptance of fate. The refrain of New Heart’s 2010 version grew from the writer’s experience of responding to a call and fits a response to service or commissioning. Leave room for the weak as well, letting trust grow through real struggle instead of making an enthusiastic declaration the proof of spiritual maturity.
Dedication, commissioning, graduation and life transitions; teaching on Psalm 31 or Romans 12.
