Redeeming grace · Resurrection and victory
The song moves from the conviction that the Redeemer still lives to his guidance in the valleys and the hope of meeting the Lord in the future. In suffering, Job persists in looking to the Redeemer who will vindicate him; the New Testament goes further, proclaiming through Jesus’ real resurrection the hope that those who belong to him will rise in the future. We can sing this song before we have emerged from loneliness and anxiety, remembering that the Lord’s life and lovingkindness are not limited by our present circumstances. The closing expectation of the Lord’s appearing also gives our perseverance today a longer horizon. As we comfort one another, we should allow grief to be heard and then accompany brothers and sisters forward with the promise of resurrection.
Easter, worship on hope, funeral services and comforting one another in difficulty.
