Redeeming grace · Freely given grace
This first-person thanksgiving and confession voices an ordinary person turning to address the Lord after God’s light has shone on their life. First John makes the order clear: “We love him, because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19). Human love is a response; God takes the initiative. First Peter says that believers are called to proclaim the excellence of “him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). Those who have been illuminated should speak. A song like this can become an expression of personal emotion alone. Bring its focus back to God’s first action, letting the confession stand on grace.
Personal devotions, testimony and thanksgiving gatherings; response before or after baptismal testimonies.
