The pilgrim journey · Companionship and guidance
The title's three names develop in sequence: God—who he is; Father—his relationship with me; Rock—what he means to me. In Psalm 18, on the day David was delivered from Saul, he uses just such a string of names, piling seven or eight together. In trouble, people seldom speak in abstractions. They cry out, one after another, who God is. This song retains that voice. New Heart Music's work is generally simple, with uncomplicated instrumentation, making it well suited to groups and prayer meetings: it can be sung without a band. For brothers and sisters in difficulty, it may fit better than many cheerful hymns of praise.
Prayer meetings, small group gatherings and visits; teaching on the Psalms or trusting God in trouble.
