Starting from our identity as those who have died and risen with Christ, this hymn considers his keeping, sympathy and provision at every moment. Romans 6 connects believers’ new way of life with the Lord’s death and resurrection; Galatians explains that we now live by faith in the Son of God. As we sing, we can bring the great truths of salvation into a particular day: seeking help in temptation, pouring out sorrow to the Lord and learning obedience as we fulfil our responsibilities. The Lord’s grace continually sustains us and also urges us to leave our former sinful actions. A life united with him gradually bears the fruit of faithfulness, gentleness and patience in many ordinary moments.
