The pilgrim journey · Companionship and guidance
In Luke 1, Mary’s obedience responds to God’s revealed saving action, fulfilled through the Holy Spirit’s power. Isaiah likewise witnesses that God’s Word never returns empty but accomplishes what pleases him. As a congregation uses this medley to ask for his Word to work and longs for his presence, let obedience rest on clear scriptural revelation. The unique promise to Mary cannot be applied directly as a guarantee that our personal dreams will come true. God’s presence comforts, but also illumines, cleanses and sends people, drawing those who pray into a deeper abiding in Christ.
