Confession and repentance · Surrender and dedication
This hymn brings the response of dedication into the whole of life: since Jesus has given himself for me, I am willing to let what pleases him guide my choices. Second Corinthians explains how Christ’s love moves a redeemed life to live for the Lord instead; Romans also sees offering our bodies as a response to mercy. The hymn suits singing after a sermon, yet the practice towards which it points extends beyond the gathering. We can begin with an ordinary responsibility and ask the Lord to help us fulfil it faithfully, treat people honestly and notice those who need service. Small daily choices gradually carry this dedication, making the commitment on our lips a visible direction in life.
