The pilgrim journey · Companionship and guidance
Through the image of a flowing river, the hymn describes the peace the Lord gives and turns our hearts towards a life of continually relying on him. Isaiah connects peace with steadfast trust in God; Philippians teaches believers to make their needs known in prayer and thanksgiving and receive his guarding of their hearts and minds. As we sing, we can honestly face our anxiety and entrust to the Lord the timing and results we cannot control. A sense of security can grow stronger through prayer, reminders of the truth and the companionship of others, giving us strength to take appropriate action today. We can also remember the support we have received in the past and learn to wait patiently in matters we do not yet understand, continuing to trust the Lord’s wisdom and lovingkindness.
