Redeeming grace · Precious blood and cleansing
Beginning with the picture of Jesus’ death, this song moves into confession and thanksgiving. We acknowledge before the Saviour our impurity, weariness and repeated falls, while hoping to find renewal in him. John records the real events of the cross; 1 John explains that Christ’s blood cleanses people from sin; 2 Corinthians declares that anyone in Christ is a new creation. Leaders can use these passages to explain the ground of forgiveness so that the congregation comes before the Lord in faith. When using the song at baptism or Communion services, a response of following the Lord can follow: those who receive grace learn each day to take up the cross, continue repenting in weakness, rely on the Saviour and seek the church’s support.
