The glory of God · Wisdom and eternity
Through the series of questions in Isaiah 40, this Scripture song leads us to consider the Creator’s wisdom and greatness. Who can measure the seas or weigh the mountains, and who can be God’s counsellor? In the same chapter, the prophet also comforts the people who feel forgotten, declaring that the everlasting Lord can renew the strength of the weary. Reading the two sections together gives reverence and comfort a shared foundation: the One who sustains us has wisdom far beyond our judgement. At a gathering, first read verses 12–14, then verses 27–31, letting the congregation worship with their real worries. Pondering his greatness also helps us acknowledge our limits and humbly receive his guidance.
