Confession and repentance · Following and obedience
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus proclaims the Beatitudes, showing his disciples the way of life of the people of the Kingdom of Heaven. This Scripture song helps the congregation remember the promises given to the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, those who hunger for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, peacemakers and those persecuted for righteousness. When leading, first read Matthew 5 and explain how these promises relate to the Kingdom of Heaven, then sing together. A small group can also choose one Beatitude and share how they want to respond this week: acknowledging their need before the Lord, taking the initiative to make peace or supporting someone who has been wronged. The hope to which the Beatitudes point helps disciples continue following Christ amid difficulty and treasure the comfort and Kingdom he promises.
