This song directs worship’s emotion towards a lifelong direction: knowing Christ and measuring pursued values by his cross. In Philippians 3, knowing the Lord changes Paul’s assessment of former achievements in which he could boast, while he keeps pressing ahead. Love for Jesus can begin with fervent singing but must become faithfulness, honesty and mercy over the years.
