The pilgrim journey · Prayer and drawing near

About this hymn

Translated from Japanese, this worship song uses brief, repeated petitions to express wholehearted love for Jesus and a desire to draw nearer to him. Singers open their lives to the Lord, allowing what their hearts seek to focus increasingly on him himself. Psalm 63 likewise uses thirst to describe seeking God and turns towards praise in remembering his lovingkindness. Jesus also teaches his disciples to abide in his love and respond by keeping his commandments. Leaders can leave time for silence, allowing people to entrust scattered thoughts and busyness to the Lord. Longing then becomes a life with direction: a willingness to listen to Scripture, continue in prayer and learn in relationships and responsibilities to be faithful to the Saviour we love.

When to use this hymn
