Redeeming grace · The cross and substitutionary atonement

About this hymn

Acknowledging limited strength, the song grounds forgiveness’s assurance in Christ’s accomplished redemption. Sin’s stain and debt both show that improved performance cannot save us. Jesus gave himself for sinners, enabling those who repent to return confidently to God. Colossians joins cancellation of debt to the cross, and First Peter says he bore sin so we might turn from it and live righteously. Bring recurring failings before him, then receive forgiveness and seriously repair harm. Obedience born of gratitude responds to grace freely received.

When to use this hymn
