With an extremely simple confession, this children’s hymn helps us rest our assurance of being loved on the Jesus to whom Scripture bears witness. Children may not be able to explain many doctrines, yet can know that the Lord welcomes them and that weakness does not deprive them of his care. Mark records Jesus receiving and blessing little children, giving this love a concrete face; Romans connects the Lord’s love with his laying down his life for sinners. Adults singing can also learn afresh to receive grace confidently. Those leading children can use gospel stories to help them understand that security in faith comes from a trustworthy Saviour and experience this love through the church’s real companionship and care.
