The glory of God · Christ: glory made visible
Almost the whole song does one thing: repeatedly names who Jesus is—the holy Redeemer, abundant giver, victor and healer. Scripture supplies a pattern for such singing. In Revelation the four living creatures never stop saying day or night, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come!” (Revelation 4:8). Naming his identity is the central act of worship. Philippians says that God highly exalted him and gave him the name above every name, “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow” (Philippians 2:10). There is no need to hurry through sections when leading: repetition itself lets the congregation speak these names with care.
Opening worship and proclaiming Christ’s lordship; small-group singing and preparation for prayer.
