Confession and repentance · Confession and returning
This hymn describes coming to Jesus through successive changes of direction: bringing bondage, shame and fear before him to receive forgiveness, freedom and rest. In Matthew, the Saviour invites the weary and burdened near; Colossians explains God bringing us into his beloved Son’s Kingdom and redeeming us in him. Singing can become an honest prayer of repentance, replacing concealment and delay with openness about inward burdens. Having approached the Lord, we continue learning within grace, accepting teaching, repairing relationships and leaving old habits. His promised welcome gives every step of return hope.
