This hymn presents evangelism as something we become more willing to share as we know the Saviour better. Jesus’ death and resurrection are both the good news new believers receive and the foundation believers need to hear again throughout life. Romans explains that people believe by hearing the proclaimed word of Christ; 1 Corinthians places Christ’s death for sins and resurrection at the centre of the gospel. As we sing, we can examine whether our testimony points clearly to Jesus and whether we notice those who have not yet heard. Telling others of the Lord’s grace does not require us to package personal experiences as something spectacular. Explaining salvation honestly and accompanying listeners with patience and love in everyday life is a faithful response to the gospel we believe.
