About this hymn

The song places assurance in the one who holds tomorrow without guaranteeing better circumstances. That restraint lets it stand amid suffering. Matthew 6:34 teaches, “Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.” The Lord does not promise a trouble-free tomorrow; each day's burden is to be faced for that day. Hebrews 13:8 anchors this assurance in one person: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Stanphill's first marriage ended in 1948 and the song's copyright was registered in 1950. The dates are close, but available evidence does not establish the marriage breakdown as the direct reason for writing it. Do not present that connection as certain. Chinese churches often sing the song during farewells, illness and moves.

When to use this hymn
