Our misery in sin · Crying out and waiting
The tax collector in Luke 18 stands far away, unable even to raise his eyes to heaven. Beating his breast, he asks God for mercy as a sinner. Jesus says he went home justified rather than the Pharisee. This song gives voice to that brief cry. Chinese worship has relatively few songs asking mercy; we more often sing of victory and blessing. Yet if a church never sings this kind of song, its people may have no words in weakness. Psalm 51 opens with the same appeal for mercy according to God's loving kindness. Use the song slowly during quiet confession.
