About this hymn

Isaiah 41:13 describes Yahweh your God holding your right hand and telling you not to fear because he will help. Holding a hand is concrete: coming near and taking hold. Psalm 73:23 is even more moving. Having just confessed bitterness and near failure, the psalmist says, “You have held my right hand.” (Psalm 73:23). The hand being held belongs to the very person who was complaining. With a simple melody and modest range, this song suits quiet singing on pastoral visits and with older brothers and sisters.

When to use this hymn

Visits, comfort and prayer meetings; accompanying brothers and sisters who are ill or afraid.
